Mahalaxmi temple

One of the capital city's most discerning asset is the Mahalaxmi Temple. Located on the Dada Vaidya road (Rua de Saudade during the Portuguese times), the Mahalaxmi deity is the chief object of veneration for all Panjimites, irrespective of caste, class, sex or creed. The city, blessed by three historic ecclesiastical monuments - the Jamma Masjid, the Church of Immaculate Conception and the Mahalaxmi temple - surprisingly standing on the same road pose a perfect symmetry of communal harmony and camaraderie. On 10 July 1818, the deity was consecrated there and the foundation stone of the Mahalaxmi temple was laid. Refusing to be cowed down by the heavy monsoon downpours of Goa, the pious devotees led by the late Shri Narayan Kumar Mhamai, Mr. Sinari and others consecrated the Mahalaxmi deity in the backyard of Panjim city on 10 July 1818. Azad Maidan

Azad Maidan  is a martyrs' monument and ground in the India  state of Panajim Goa . It is located opposite the Goa Police   headquarters on the Mahatma Gandhi  Road, Panaji. Originally built as a square, it was known as the  Praça de Sete Janelas  ( Square of the Seven Windows ). The name was derived from the iconic Goa Police  headquarters building, which has seven windows each to its either ends and the entrance. The building originally had a ground floor and three sets of seven windows each on the first floor. Opposite to Institute, next to ferry terminal is a monument dedicate to the victims who died in 1901, when ferry drowned in Mandovi River going from Panjim to Verem, eighty one people died in this accident. Church Square

A chapel was first built in Panaji in 1541,to serve the needs of Portuguese sailors at their first port of call in colonial Portuguese India. At the time of settlement a small finishing village. It became parish in 1600,and in 1609 the small chapel was replaced by  the present day large church to minister the residents and sailors. In the 18th century the stairways in a symmetrical zigzag form, were added to the church. The 2nd largest church bell in Goa was installed in a bell tower in 1871. It was formally at the Augustinian Monastery on the holly hill, and was retrieved after the monastery was damaged. During the festival of Our Lady of Immaculate conception, held every year on 8th December,the church is colorfully illuminate. A fair is also part of this festival. Posted by : Omkar Navelkar 

Old town of panjim

Omkar khandeparkar c16-348 One more interesting place in panjim is the old town of panjim which is situeted in mala 3km away from panjim bus stand. It is one of best palce to visit in panjim. When you vist this old town you will be able to see many portuges house coloured with many shades which seems to look ossum. There is also a temple which is situted at steep hill of mala which can be sewn from there. There is also a residential quarters of fontainhas named after the fountain of pheonix a spring that was the only Source of water for that area. You can also get a great view of panjim city from mala temple which is situated in old town of panjim.

Santa monika cruise

Omkar khandeparkar c16-348 There are many tourist places in panjim . One of them is santa monika cruise which is located at the entrence of the city. There are many leisurely cruises which takes you along the mandovi river. While the boat sails down the river ,local boys and girls perform folk dances and sings mandos which representes goan culture. It takes you to panjim riverfront to miramar to witness a spectacular sunset. This boats are well decorated eith lights which looks ossum at night. This cruises sails down the river mostly at nite , it is closed at the day time. It also takes you to watch the beautiful Adil Shah Palace that was one of the first building in panjim city. This was the summer palace of sultan which was then used by the viceroy of portugal and finally by the government of Goa as its secretariat. By sailing down the river you will be able to see famous forts and places which are situated at banks of mandovi river. 

Mala maruti temple

Mala maruti temple: Abhishek khandeparkar c16-149 One more interesting place in panjim is the mala temple.This temple is of lord hanuma or maruti.This temple is at such a location that it can be seen from various places in the city eg.this temple can be seen from the panjim bridge.It is roughly at a distace of 3-4 kms from bus stand. The temple is one the best architectural marvels of the city.It has a shape of a Rath i.e a horse cart used by ancient lords.This can be noticed since there are two large wheels made at either side of the temple. The way to this temple includes many stairs.The temple is painted orange which is a holy colour according to hindu mythology.

PANJIM MARKET

Panjim market: Abhishek khandeparkar c16-149 one of the many places to visit is panjim market.This is such a place that you can buy anything from stationery,vegetables, and fish too! There are 2 market buildings i.e old and new.The new market is a 2 floor complex.Once you enter you can see fruit vendors sitting in row opposite to each other.Here you can buy fresh fruits like mangoes,apples etc.Also there  are many flower sellers on the left side when you enter. Old market has all the clothes,shoe sellers.Here there are small small shops selling many products.

Kala Academy

  Kala Academy is prominent cultural centre run by b the Government of Goa,in Goa,India.situated at campal,panjim ,it is registered as a society as a society and was started in February 1970 . the building was designed by  charles correa .it played the role of being an "apex body to develop music drama fine art,folk art,literature etc and there by promote cultural unity of Goa. funded by the Government of Goa, the centre offers training through its  faculty, and also organises festivals, competition , exhibitions,workshops,seminars, and other programmes related to various form of the local arts .it has a general council of 28 members,a 14-member Executive board and advisory committees for various sections.
